Preservation group seeks to save one of oldest public schools in Arlington


Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing CEO Nina Janopaul said she is encouraged by the county’s willingness to explore redeveloping the area given the loss of affordable housing units in the area as the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor has seen an influx of new development.




Arlington Public Schools plans to sell the Wilson School in Rosslyn to developer Penzance, but not if Preservation Arlington can help it, ARLnow.com reports.
The group has launched an online petition to try to save the historic school located at 1601 Wilson Blvd. Built in 1910, it is one of the oldest existing public schools in Arlington, according to the petition site. As of Tuesday afternoon, the page had 117 online signatures. As we reported in June, Penzance and Arlington County officials plan to build a new firehouse, demolish the Wilson School building and build upward of 200 affordable housing units.
