Hotel planned for former D.C. Chartered Health HQ

The former headquarters for D.C. Chartered Health Plan has sold for $9.5 million to Honeybee Hospitality LLC, which is planning to convert the building into a boutique hotel

A D.C.-based hospitality company is checking in at embattled D.C. businessman Jeffrey Thompson's former healthcare company headquarters.
Honeybee Hospitality LLC has paid $9.5 million for Thompson's former D.C. Chartered Health Plan Inc. headquarters at 1025 15th St. NW. The sale, brokered by Summit Commercial Real Estate and TTR Sotheby's International Realty, closed Friday for about $380 per square foot.
Honeybee, formed in August, is registered at the same address as the Windsor Inn. Representatives from the Windsor Inn, located at 1942 16th St. NW, could not be reached for comment.
TTR's Michael Hines and Summit's Guy d'Amercourt, Paul DeFilippes, John Duffy and Gordon Nielson brokered the sale on behalf of D.C. Healthcare Systems Inc., a Thompson-owned holding company that bought the property for $5.15 million back in 2003. The 29,000-square-foot building is located by 15th and L streets NW.
Thompson is at the center of a federal investigation tied to an allegedly off-the-books campaign to help elect Mayor Vincent Gray in 2010. In addition to Gray, Thompson allegedly helped fund the campaigns of several other elected officials including Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, according to The Washington Post.
