The Washington Hilton is getting an 11-story residential addition, to be developed by Lowe Enterprises.

We've got a couple major new additions to the D.C. skyline to report in the Thursday edition of permits.

  • 1919 Connecticut Ave. NW: The Washington Hilton is welcoming a new member to the family — an 11-story addition. Lowe Enterprises was issued a permit Wednesday to construct a curved (like the hotel) residential tower with 11 levels of finished space plus a mechanical penthouse, ground floor lobby and the alteration of a portion of the former hotel space to contain one level of underground parking. Lowe jointly owns the 1,100-room Hilton hotel with Earvin "Magic" Johnson's Canyon-Johnson Urban Fund, but in August, it bought out Johnson's stake in the residential development. The $150 million building, approved by the Historic Preservation Review Board in 2008 and again in January 2011, has been planned for five-plus years, but stalled as a result of the economic downturn.
  • 601 Massachusetts Ave. NW: Boston properties was issued its permit to construct a new 11-floor trophy office building and five levels of below grade parking on the site of the former National Public Radio headquarters. The building permit comes two months after the developer earned its sheeting and shoring permits for the same project. Arnold & Porter LLP will anchor the new building.
  • 2518, 2520, 2524 Ralph Ellison Way NE: Three new single family homes from Fort Lincoln-Gateway Village LLC.
  • 801 17th St. NW: Au Bon Pain will be taking 2,278 square feet in this trophy office building developed by Property Group Partners. It will be the chain's 21st D.C. location.
  • 3927-3939 South Capitol St. SW: Raze permit issued for this one-story commercial building. This is the site of the future Trinity Plaza. a heavily-subsidized four-story mixed-use building to include 5,000 square feet of ground floor retail and 49 apartments.
  • 605 Quincy St. NW: Convert single family home to a two-family flat.
  • 1620 L St. NW: Interior renovation to 10th floor office space for the Personal Care Products Council. The council is currently based at 1101 17th St. NW, on the third floor.
