Airbnb defies NYC, promotes marathon housing


Airbnb remains very popular in New York, in spite of legal concerns about illegal hotels.




This weekend an estimated 2 million people will watch 47,000 racers cross the finish line of the ING New York City Marathon. Many of them will be from out of town, and looking for a place to crash. But before New York City residents decide to cash in on their empty couches and bedrooms by renting them on sites like Airbnb, they may want to think twice.
Earlier this month New York State attorney general Eric Schneiderman subpoenaed all 15,000 Airbnb hosts in the New York area, setting off a series of blog posts by David Hantman, Yahoo’s former government relations exec-turned Airbnb defender.
